For many, the Summer months present a time for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. For others, it’s simply the middle of the year, nothing more, nothing less. For students decreases in productivity during these months result in experiencing what’s called the Summer Slide ⛷, and for working adults it’s called the Summer Slump🐫. During these months of vacationing, resetting holistically, spending time with family and friends, etc., time flies by and one day you open your eyes and realize Summer is over and Fall is here. 

As we (students and professionals) are getting ready to begin the new year/quarter, it’s important for us to SNAP BACK 🔑 from the lax vibes of Summer and prepare ourselves for what’s to come in Fall.

Personal Update

This summer was very eventful. Majority of my time was spent house hunting, packing, moving, and settling in. As always I’m all for being transparent and honest, and although I’m not proud of it, I must admit that I was not able to accomplish all of the goals that I set for myself at the beginning of summer. So yes, I too experienced a bit of a Summer Slump in the later months 🐫. During this time I’ve traveled to Jamaica ✈️, let my hair down, and simply enjoyed my current phase of life 🌺. While during much of this time I was constantly thinking about the things that I still needed to do, I was reminded on many occasions that time to RESET is necessary in order to ensure that I do not burnout.

Lessons Learned

  1. Take things day-by-day…block out a certain amount of time daily to working on various tasks and hold yourself accountable to ensure that they are accomplished.
  2. Establish deadlines…Having dates set creates a sense of urgency that promotes productivity and prevents the Summer Slump from becoming something that you can’t SNAP BACK from.
  3. Embrace your OFF time…live in the moment and protect this time just as well as you protect your work time.


The time that consists of preparing myself mentally, emotionally, and physically for the next phase is what I refer to as the SNAP BACK 🔑. This time typically begins two to three weeks prior to the semester beginning for me and ends two weeks after the semester begins. Essentially, this period is when I dedicate time to re-centering, re-aligning, and readjusting myself back into “school mode” 💡.

What my Snap Back Consists Of:

  • Setting goals
  • Purchasing a planner and organizing dates
  • Printing out syllabi and transferring dates into my planner
  • Meeting with various individuals

    The Snap Back….Love It!!!! I sometimes find myself needing a Snap Back in many obstacles in my life. I really like the preparing stage for your Snap Back…many of us still feeling relaxed wait right until the time come to wanna snap back. That’s when we find ourselves overwhelmed and over stress. Thanks for the preparation time…It all seems to make sense, and less stressing…Continue aiming high…Blessings

      Thank you again for the continued support and for your comment. Also great point, setting time out to prepare definitely reduces stress as you’re not being rushed to make hasty decisions or changes. Instead you feel more in control and ready for what’s to come.
